Graduated SUNY, Albany, BA 1954, MA 1955. Taught history, geography and English at Fabius Central School, Fabius, NY, and began a Doctor of Social Sciences program summers and evenings at Syracuse University. I married a Florida girl in 1961, and she persuaded me to leave Syracuse, snow and New York for the glamor of running a hotel her father owned on Miami Beach. Take it from me Miami Beach sucks! I got back into teaching at Miami-Dade Community College. In 1967 I started a Ph.D. program at Flolrida State Univ. in Tallahassee supported by a job as a half-time instructor in history. part way through my studies my wife decided to run off to Morocco with another scholar. Single again, I finished the program, and got a job teaching history and political science at Lake City Community College. There I met a young teacher named Sharon Voigt who shared my love of things English, good ale and good wine. Sharon began graduate work in counselor education, earning her Sp. Ed. We bought 22 acres of North Florida oak forest just a mile from the Ichetucknee Springs, built first a cabin, then the larger house, and had three kids who wondered why they didn't live in a neighborhood like other other kids at school. At the college I was elevated to chair of the Liberal Arts Division in 1987, and then to Dean of Instructional Support in 1992. Sharon, the kids and I have done several trips to Europe and the UK, I survived rectal cancer and have stayed free of cancer for more than ten years now. I retired as dean in 2002 and taught for five years as adjunct instructor of history, but now I pass my time with some target shooting and genealogical research.
